In the fall of 2021, residents of Camp Curtin sounded the alarm about the illegal dumping of construction debris in our Camp Curtin and Uptown neighborhoods. In response, and in coordination with DEP Environmental Justice Advisory Board member and Camp Curtin resident Rafiyqa Muhammad, CCNU sent letters to County, State and local elected and appointed officials, and hosted a series of Town Hall meetings to address the ongoing issue of illegal dumping in our community. As a result of this continued pressure on our elected and appointed officials to take action, and the tireless efforts of resident Rafiyqa Muhammad, the City administration has announced a plan to work with the County and employ Pete Baltimore as the City’s Environmental Enforcement Officer. In addition, City Public Works Director David West has informed that Kevin Jackson is the Sanitation Supervisor for Illegal Dumping and Blight in the City of Harrisburg. Residents are advised that they can anonymously report illegal dumping activity by calling (717) 982-6772.
